From coding to robotics: MDIA announces new hands-on summer programmes for young creators

Ever wondered what goes into building the tech and gadgets you use every single day? Instead of just sitting behind a screen this summer, the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) is opening up its workshop doors for kids and teens who want to get their hands dirty.

Their “Empowering Young Minds” summer programmes are all about moving away from textbooks and giving you a space to build, experiment, and hang out with people who like the same stuff.

They have teamed up with local hubs like the University of Malta, MCAST, and Esplora to set up a bunch of interactive camps. No boring lectures, just teamwork, cool projects, and seeing your ideas come to life.

The Builders Zone: Robots and Engineering

If you love mechanics and seeing things actually work in real life, this side of the lineup is for you. The biggest highlight is the RoboTech Summer School, a four-week programme where teams work together to design, assemble, and program their own functional robots from scratch. There is also Tech Trek (Ages 13 to 15), a 5-day bootcamp where you get to use data and logic to solve everyday design challenges.

The Software Zone: Code and Systems

For anyone interested in what happens behind the screen, these tracks give you a clean look at how software works. The Future Innovators Summer School (Ages 13 to 15) is a simple introduction to modern programming logic and smart tech. If you already know a bit of coding and want a challenge, you can skip the basics and jump straight into Future Innovators Plus to work on more complex digital projects.

Fun Starter Tech

Getting an early start is a big focus too. Over in Gozo, the Gozo Tech Whiz (Ages 6 to 12) camp is back with all-new updated content! It uses fun, visual projects to help younger kids get comfortable with tech. For middle schoolers, xPloring Intelligence (Ages 11 to 13) spends 5 days breaking down exactly how humans interact with modern systems and how tech processes info behind the scenes.

Whether you are a student wanting to learn how to make your own projects or a parent looking for a productive, fun option for your kids over the holi+days, these bootcamps are a great way to try something new.

Spaces are limited because of the hands-on workshops, so if you want to check out the dates and secure a spot, head over to the MDIA Empowering Young Minds page.
